Protect Your Skin from the Sun

Protect Your Skin from the Sun

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer.  According to American Cancer Society about 5.4 million skin cancers are diagnosed each year.  Many skin cancers are very treatable, but it is important to be aware of Melanoma which is the most deadly type of skin cancer.  It is estimated that approximately 76,000 Melanomas will be diagnosed and approximately 10,000 people will die from Melanoma.  For this reason it is important to protect your skin.

Skin Protection from the Sun:

  • Limit time in the sun especially between 10am – 2pm.
  • Wear protective clothing, hats, shirts, pants and sunglasses.
  • Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least a 15 or higher rating.
  • Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before you go out in the sun, reapply every two hours and more often if you are wet or sweating.
