Project Update
Our fiscal year comes to a close on June 30, 2017 thus, we’re showcasing some of our accomplishments.
Don’t Forget the HPV Vaccine! educational presentation reached 91 parents from six underserved urban and rural elementary schools in Atlantic County, as part of our ongoing effort to help get more pre-teens vaccinated against this virus that causes devastating cancers in women and men. Increased knowledge from pre– to the post-test averaged 12%. Other topics presented included chronic disease prevention and facts about tobacco use and cessation. We’re working on presenting at two elementary schools in Cape May County who have indicated interest.

Oral Cancer Screenings took place in April, National Oral Cancer Awareness Month. Thank you to our partners Dr. Richard Levitt (Northfield) and CompleteCare Medical and Dental Professionals (Wildwood), who screened 19 people this year with an average increased knowledge of 79%.
Palliative Care Committee educational presentation and Bingo game reached 114 seniors at eight senior centers, nutrition sites and assisted living residences in our region, with an average increased knowledge from pre– to post-test of 17%. Palliative Care is part of the New Jersey Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan and directly relates to the management of cancer and chronic disease. The goal of the committee is to educate the community as well as health care providers about this form of care via outreach workshops. We are eager to continue to expand within Cape May County.
